THE JOHN BUNYAN BOAT ANNOUNCES NEW CRUISES FOR THIS SPRING

April draws near which signals the start of the John Bunyan Community Boat’s cruising season. This year we have a number of new cruises which encompass the delight of cruising with another activity be it dining, learning of the History of Bedford or even Gin.

Starting in April on the 18th April there will be 45minute cruises along the Embankment from Sovereigns Quay at 12pm,1.45pm and 3pm. This is the perfect way to sample the John Bunyan Boat for the first time and enjoy Bedford from a different view point.

This is followed up by three favourite cruises. Eye Spy cruises on the 12th April again from Sovereigns Quay and in the three time slots, during the afternoon. One for the children. And a jazz cruise on the 22nd April, always very popular, for which we would advise booking early to avoid disappointment. On the 1st and 2nd May afternoon cream tea cruises will leave from Priory Marina for a 2hour cruise to Cardington and back, relaxing!

Two new cruises which are proving popular already a curry cruise in conjunction with the Thali & Tandoor restaurant on the 12th May, whose food is excellent. Dine whilst enjoying evening views of Bedford as you cruise along. The first History cruise will take place on 4th May commencing in Bedford Mercure Hotel (Hotel car park £5, redeemed on refreshments) then joining the John Bunyan Boat at St Mary’s Gardens. Local historian David Fowler will then provide commentary and explanations on the history of Bedford and sights seen from the river.

The Afternoon Tea Cruise is for those who enjoy a relaxing time on the river coupled with a delicious afternoon tea

Departing from the Priory Marina at 2pm on the 18th May, travelling through green parkland and past the easily identifiable Oasis Pyramid to Town Lock. Once through the lock the boat travels along the Embankment enjoying views of some of Bedford's landmarks before disembarkation at St Mary's Garden adjacent to Mercure Bedford Centre Hotel for a delicious and traditional afternoon tea prepared by Will Smith- a very talented up and coming Head Chef. Tea will be served in the Riverside Restaurant which provides outstanding views of the Town Bridge and river.  The boat will then cruise back to the Priory Marina arriving for 5.30pm.

Look for other cruises in the year such as the Gin Tasting Cruise in July.
